Description
Golden Torch Cactus (Echinopsis spachiana)
also known as Golden Column Cactus—is a beautiful, fast-growing columnar cactus native to Argentina and Bolivia. It forms multi-stem clusters reaching 5–7 feet tall, making it a standout architectural plant for landscapes and collections. The stems are lime-green with yellowish-white spines that turn grey as the plant matures. In late spring, it produces large, showy, fragrant white flowers that bloom at night and last until midday—a stunning sight for cactus lovers.
This cactus is extremely drought-tolerant and thrives in hot, dry conditions. It prefers sandy, well-draining soil and full sun to partial sunlight. Overwatering should be avoided to prevent root rot. It grows well in containers, rock gardens, succulent beds, or as a desert accent plant. Due to its vertical growth, it also looks elegant near walls, pathways, or modern landscapes.
